Headway Account Types Explained: Cent vs Standard vs Pro

Headway's account list appears straightforward: Cent for smaller-scale participation, Standard for a familiar spread-based setup, and Pro for traders willing to consider a commission-based pricing model. The confusing part is deciding which difference actually matters to your strategy. An attractive minimum deposit does not guarantee small losses, and a tighter advertised spread does not automatically make a trade cheaper.
This guide compares the three accounts using the figures published on Headway's account comparison as reviewed on 15 October 2026. Terms can change, instruments can have different specifications and availability may depend on the entity and country of registration. We have not independently traded these accounts or tested execution with live funds.

These are broker-advertised starting figures, not guaranteed fill prices, fixed spreads or an independent recommendation. Deposit limits can also vary by payment method, country and promotions. The platform and symbol contract specification displayed after registration should take precedence over a generic overview table.
Cent account: smaller units, but not smaller responsibility
A Cent account is designed for traders who want to start with a modest financial commitment and observe how a live environment feels. Its balance and trade sizing may use cent-oriented conventions, which can make small-value practice more accessible than a standard contract arrangement. That can be useful when the objective is to test order placement, keep a journal and develop discipline rather than chase a return.
However, 'cent' does not eliminate leverage, market gaps or the emotional pressures of trading real money. Before relying on a platform's apparent position size, read its contract specifications. Confirm the lot size, underlying units, pip value, margin formula and how account currency is displayed. A trader who misunderstands those units can unintentionally take more exposure than expected.
Headway's account page lists a $1 minimum deposit, floating spread from 0.3 pip and no separate commission for Cent. That is a pricing description; your actual trading expenses still depend on the instrument, spread at execution and overnight costs. A few test trades cannot demonstrate how the account will perform during a major market event.
Standard account: simpler fee presentation
Standard uses a spread-based model in the main Headway account comparison. The official page lists a $10 starting deposit, a floating spread from 0.3 pip and no separately advertised dealing commission. This can be easier for some traders to understand because a larger proportion of the normal entry cost is reflected in the quoted bid–ask spread.
That simplicity does not mean the cost is permanently low. Variable spreads can widen with changing liquidity. Holding a position overnight can introduce swap or financing charges, and orders can slip under volatility. The cost shown in an order ticket is more relevant than the best-case spread shown on a promotional page.
Standard deserves consideration if you primarily want an uncomplicated fee structure and you plan to trade at a frequency where a fraction of a pip difference is not the only deciding factor. Before switching from a demo to live account, practise risk sizing with the actual contract specifications for your preferred symbols.
Pro account: tighter headline spreads with commissions
Pro advertises floating spreads beginning at 0.0 pip and a separate commission, listed by Headway as up to $1.50 on each side per lot in the account overview. The advertised minimum deposit is $100. It may be an interesting model to compare for traders who place enough trades that total spread expense is meaningful.
There is a common trap here: a 0.0-pip *minimum* is not a promise that the spread will always be zero. The broker may charge a round-trip commission, and spreads can vary by product and market conditions. If your execution deteriorates when volatility rises, a lower headline spread may offer little advantage.
For example, consider a simplified one-lot EUR/USD position with an approximate $10-per-pip value in a USD account. An illustrative 0.3-pip spread would represent about $3 of spread cost. A hypothetical Pro trade with zero spread but $1.50 commission on each side would also total $3. Those examples are deliberately stylised; they do not represent quoted Headway prices or the realised cost of any actual order. The meaningful comparison is the real combination of spread, commission, slippage and holding costs.
Which account fits a beginner?
There is no universally correct answer. Beginners often focus too heavily on minimum deposits, but the more important starting questions are whether they understand the trading platform, have an affordable test budget and can calculate the maximum loss on a planned position. Cent can help with small-value experimentation; Standard may be conceptually simpler when comparing spread cost. Pro should be considered only when the trader has a reason to monitor commission and variable spreads closely.
A demo account can be useful for learning orders and building a routine before any live deposit. Keep in mind that a demo may not reproduce all live-market emotional or execution conditions. Never select an account because a promotional offer suggests that high leverage will make a small balance grow safely.
Which account should a scalper compare?
A short-term trader should investigate the distribution of actual spreads during the sessions they trade, the round-trip commission, execution quality and slippage, not simply the minimum spread. Pro's fee model may be worth comparing against Standard, but we cannot claim it is cheaper without measured data for the same symbol, position size and trading period.
Scalping also magnifies operational frictions: a small spread widening or delayed exit can materially change an intended reward-to-risk ratio. If using Expert Advisors on MetaTrader, validate lot sizes and trading rules for the exact account. A strategy that looks acceptable on a backtest may behave differently with live fees and execution.
Four questions that matter more than the headline deposit
- What is my true exposure? Confirm contract size, pip value and required margin in the account's instrument specifications.
- What is my all-in trade cost? Include floating spread, round-trip commission, overnight charges, slippage and conversion fees.
- Which entity and legal terms apply? Compare the legal company in your agreement with the claimed regulatory entry and service restrictions.
- Can I absorb losses? A smaller starting balance makes losses smaller in absolute dollars only if position sizing remains proportionate; it does not make leverage safer.
Account selection checklist
Before opening or upgrading an account, note your intended instruments, frequency, average holding time and the maximum amount you can afford to lose. Then calculate trade expenses using normal rather than unusually favourable spreads. If the account denomination differs, translate the displayed pip values into real currency exposure. Finally, test the strategy on a demo or appropriately small account without treating a handful of trades as statistically meaningful proof.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between Headway Cent and Standard?
Cent is designed around smaller-value account conventions, while Standard follows a conventional trading account format. The official comparison shows a lower advertised entry deposit for Cent ($1 versus $10), with both listed as spread-based accounts without a separate headline commission. Confirm the detailed contract sizes before trading.
Does Headway Pro guarantee zero spreads?
No. The website advertises floating spreads from 0.0 pip. The actual spread can be wider and there may be a separate commission.
Is Pro always cheaper than Standard?
No. The cheaper structure depends on the actual bid–ask spread, round-trip commissions, trading volume, holding period and execution. Compare like-for-like trades instead of marketing minimums.
Are MT4 and MT5 offered on all three accounts?
Headway's October 2026 comparison lists both platforms for Cent, Standard and Pro. Specific trading instruments and server availability should still be confirmed when you register.
