Headway vs Exness vs XM in 2026: Fees, Accounts, Platforms and Risks

Which broker is better: Headway, Exness or XM? That sounds like a simple ranking question, but it is too broad to answer responsibly without knowing which legal entity will open the account, which instrument will be traded and how the trader actually operates. A minimum deposit is not a quality score, and a spread advertised as 'from zero' is not a guarantee of zero total trading costs.

In this comparison we focus on verifiable, practical differences between published account models, platform options and common sources of risk. We use public materials from each brand reviewed on 15 October 2026. We have not conducted a funded execution or withdrawal test across all three brokers, so no winner is declared based on unmeasured performance.

Quick comparison: what each broker advertises

The table below is an orientation, not a universal ranking. Features, pricing and availability can vary by contracting entity, residency and account type. Always check the exact service and agreement offered to your country before deciding.

Sources include Headway accounts, Exness professional accounts and XM account types. A regional page can display different offers; this is why one global table cannot replace actual terms.

Start with eligibility and the legal company

The first meaningful comparison is whether each broker may legally and contractually serve you. Headway's public legal materials name JAROCEL PTY LTD and reference FSCA FSP 52108. Its Client Agreement includes restrictions affecting countries such as the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and EEA member states, among others. A visitor in a restricted jurisdiction should not treat an English-language website as permission to open an account.

Exness and XM operate through different legal arrangements in different markets. A regulated entity associated with a group brand does not automatically govern every account in the group. Compare the exact name in the account agreement, the authority, the licence scope and complaint options for the account you would actually hold. We do not claim to have independently verified every authorisation listed in every group disclosure.

Minimum deposit: accessible is not the same as inexpensive

Headway publishes unusually small starting deposits for some accounts—$1 for Cent and $10 for Standard—in its current overview. XM's general account page has advertised a $5 entry point for certain types, although availability depends on region. Exness minimums depend on the account model, payment route and potentially your jurisdiction; reading an unqualified figure from a search snippet can be misleading.

More important than entry cash is the notional risk created by position size. A trader depositing $10 can still choose an excessively large leveraged position. Compare the actual minimum tradable contract size and possible stop-out conditions, not just the nominal amount needed to activate the account.

Spread and commission models: avoid false apples-to-apples tables

Headway lists Cent and Standard floating spreads from 0.3 pip without separately stated commissions, and Pro from 0.0 pip with a commission advertised up to $1.50 per side per lot. Exness lists Raw Spread from 0 pip and a commission of up to $3.50 per side per lot on its professional account page, while other Exness account types have different fee arrangements. XM markets Standard and Ultra Low models whose charges vary with account and instrument.

That does not prove Headway Pro is cheaper than Exness Raw Spread: the quoted minimum spread could be reached at different times or instruments, and neither comparison contains a complete set of identical live quotes. A commission comparison must use the same volume and instrument, then add the actual bid–ask spread, rollover charges and slippage.

A simple model for one-lot EUR/USD trades

Imagine a conventional USD-quoted EUR/USD lot worth about $10 per pip. If two different accounts show hypothetical spreads of 0.3 and 0.1 pip, their approximate spread costs would be $3 and $1 for that lot. If the second account also charged $1.50 per side, that could add $3 round trip for a total of about $4, before other expenses. This arithmetic is illustrative and not a record of executable quotes from any of the three brokers.

Make a like-for-like table using the same date, trading session, contract size and market conditions for every broker under consideration. A trader holding gold overnight also needs gold-specific swap and contract information. Our Headway trading-cost guide explains the calculation and its limitations; the ForexSignal24 cost tools offer a place to model assumptions, not live spread guarantees.

Platform selection and automated trading

All three brands offer MetaTrader options in at least parts of their current product ranges, while Exness also advertises proprietary web or mobile access depending on eligibility and account. A useful platform comparison asks whether your exact account supports the needed instruments, order modes, Expert Advisors and historical data.

For Headway, the official MT4 vs MT5 page describes more timeframes and potential instruments on MT5. That may be valuable for multi-asset research, but a better chart does not erase cost or risk. Check the equivalent service specifications at Exness and XM rather than assuming software availability means identical execution quality.

Withdrawals, verification and operational friction

Consider how each broker handles identity documents, same-source withdrawals, card refunds, funding methods and complaints. Headway's client agreement describes a broker-side withdrawal review period and payment-source rules, but a completed request can still take time to reach the receiving provider. Other brokers have their own processes and restrictions; a claim that one is universally the fastest would require comparative funded-account evidence that we have not collected.

Before sending money, ask whether deposits and withdrawals are available in your country, whether a bank or provider adds fees, and what proof of ownership might be requested. A smooth registration experience does not replace a careful review of exit and dispute-resolution conditions.

How to decide without an arbitrary winner

Start by excluding providers that are not eligible in your jurisdiction. Next, choose a specific account and symbol at each remaining provider. Compare the contracting entity, applicable safeguards, practical position sizes, total trading cost and platform functionality. Only then weigh operational factors such as support languages, payment routes and how comfortably you can manage your risk.

A low-deposit novice may focus on the accessibility of a small position and a learnable terminal. A high-frequency trader may instead look closely at execution and commission assumptions. Someone trading only a few times per month may find funding convenience and overnight charges more important. These different priorities mean a responsible broker comparison often produces a different short list for different people.

Our comparative findings and remaining uncertainty

Headway is notable for its published Cent, Standard and Pro choice and MT4/MT5 support. Exness publishes several professional pricing structures, and XM provides Standard and Ultra Low options on its general account materials. None of those features alone establishes which company offers the lowest realised expense or best client protection for your situation.

We have not independently measured live fill rates, rejected orders, support response times or withdrawal success rates across all three. We therefore do not assign a star rating or assert a universal winner. Check each broker's current primary documents, and consider independent advice if the legal or financial consequences are unclear.

Frequently asked questions

Is Headway cheaper than Exness or XM?

It depends on your account, instrument and actual execution. Advertised minimum spreads and commissions are insufficient to determine a universally cheaper broker.

Does Headway's low minimum deposit make it the safest for beginners?

No. Lower initial funding can reduce the amount placed at risk, but leverage, position sizing, counterparty protections and trading losses still matter.

Are all three brokers available in every country?

No. Eligibility varies by company and jurisdiction. In particular, Headway's published agreement includes explicit restricted jurisdictions, so check before registration.

Which platform should I compare for an EA strategy?

Confirm the particular account offers MT4 or MT5, supports your EA's programming version and allows your instruments. Evaluate realistic backtesting and execution constraints.

Research notes: Official materials checked 15 October 2026: Headway accounts, Headway agreement, Exness professional accounts, and XM account types. All brands' conditions can change; the exact contracting company and current instrument quote govern what applies to you.

For readers eligible to consider Headway, our Headway affiliate link may pay this website a commission for qualifying referrals. Research independence, jurisdictional restrictions and the risk of losing money remain important.
